Reviving Knowledge Management

WissensmediaOn its internet plattform www.wissenmanagen.net the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) tries to expose the importance of todays knowledge management in an information society as ours. With the new Minister Dr. Karl-Theodor Freiherr zu Guttenberg’s in charge a lot of new projects concerning knowledge management are sponsored. I had the chance to recently meet 15 of these projects which can be found in detailed description on said website.

WiPro LogoOne of this sponsored projects is WiPro, a innovation management toolbox which was developed at RWTH Aachen University. WiPro (www.wipro-forum.de) is a very nice tool for every one who wants to get in contact with knowlegde based innovation management. It does not only built a comany specific innovation process but also assigns appropriate methods to support respective process phases. As for now WiPro is software based and available at www.community.wipro-forum.de. For getting instant access to the WiPro community and download the software please refer to the said project website. At the end of 2009 or eraly 2010 a web based version of WiPro will be available. So check out the project’s webside or my blog frequently to learn more.

SmartSpeedIf you are already an expert in innovation management and you are working in an global innovation management or engineering team, this tool may held you to be a lot more productive: www.smartspeed.com. Last week I’ve meet General Manager Dr. Alwo von Wickede who introduced me to his impressive thinkware. It’s easy to use and ubiquitous. But the best about it: it’s not even expensive. Sharing and saving knowledge becomes pracitcable.

Front End of Innovation Conference in Monaco

FEI Europe

Last week I had the chance to visit the Front End of Innovation Conference (FEI) in Monaco (www.frontendofinnovation.com). By invitation of conference chairman Peter Koen I had a three day experience of an excellent conference with remarkable speakers and interesting visitors.
One of those speakers was Graham Cross, Collaborative Innovation Director of Unilever, UK. He pointed out that he has not found evidence of any correlation between R&D spending and corporate growth. Trough collaborative innovation, or as he called it “open innovation”, corporations can gain sustainable growth, which he was sure about.
Who would have thought that OPEN INNOVATION is THE topic on this third FEI Conference in Europe? It was!

But it was not the only topic:

CreAx (www.creax.com) came up with one of the most exciting presentation at the conference. Check out their website to learn more about their way to innovate. Their free innovation library (www.moreinspiration.com) may inspire you to innovate differently.

Peter Koen introduced us to a new understanding of innovation types and the management implications of this new understanding.

Nokia Morph ConceptLeo Kärkkäinen from Nokia came up with Nokia’s newest visions of the future (e.g. Nokia Morph www.nokia.com/A4852062 ) and Nokia’s new thinking of how to innovate: “Broadcast to the world what you need.”

A very nice and sustainable approach of innovation was brought to us by Jan Kriekels, Director of Jaga (www.jaga.be), an Belgian radiator factory. Jaga’s slogan is: “The World is changing, Jaga comes prepared for the problems & threats of the future.” Check out the Jaga Experience World Tour 2008 / 2009 (www.jagaexperienceworldtour.com).
